How to Choose the Best Bridge Camera

When deciding on the best bridge camera, you should focus on the following characteristics:

Sensor size

Although it isn’t predetermined, a larger sensor size usually means a better overall image quality. In other words, if you want most for your money, the larger-sized sensors should certainly be your preferred choice.

Have in mind that the bridge cameras sensors aren’t as large as the best DSLR camera sensors; however, they still provide fairly decent image quality that should satisfy the vast majority of users.

Lens

Depending on what you plan to do with your bridge camera, you need to choose the one with an adequate lens. If, for instance, you want to observe wildlife, larger-sized lenses that are above 1500mm should be your main option; if, on the other hand, you need the camera only for everyday photography, lenses that are bellow that numbers would certainly be a more preferable option.

Connectivity

More connectivity options usually give you better overall versatility and usability of the device and bridge cameras are no exception. Don’t be satisfied with only one connectivity option and seek the devices with as many connectivity options as possible.

Nikon COOLPIX P1000

A Bridge Camera that Will Literally Take you to the Moon

nikon coolpix p1000
Nikon COOLPIX P1000 is a specific camera that isn’t for everyone. It has a lot of good sides such as the utterly amazing 125x zoom that has no rivals in the class and will let you take photos of faraway objects, even moon craters, like they are placed on your front lawn and not located thousands and thousands of kilometers away. Moreover, it has an excellent optical stabilization that perfectly pairs with the zoom capabilities, decent build quality, and overall good performance.

However, this camera also comes with a few serious downsides that involve poor EN-EL20a lithium-ion battery that can handle only about 250 shots per charge, low burst speed of 7fps, as well as bulky design and not that great low-light performance.

On the other hand, this camera delivers very good 30fps 4K video capture; it offers RAW support and provides solid connectivity that involves USB2.0, Bluetooth 4.1 LE, and Wi-Fi connection.

Although its 3000mm lens significantly increases Nikon COOLPIX P1000’s performance, that can be hardly said about its modest 16MP BSI-CMOS sensor that delivers solid image quality but seems a bit inadequate for such a lens “power”.

In other words, Nikon COOLPIX P1000 is a mixture of both great and modest components and features that create a niche product that is perfect for observing and capturing distant scenes and objects, but not that great when it is used in everyday situations.

Overall, this device is fun to use and probably the best bridge camera for wildlife available on the market; however, if that isn’t really your deal you should certainly look for some other models that will be more adapted to your needs.

Pros:

  • Excellent zoom
  • Great optical stabilization
  • A decent image quality
  • Good build quality
  • A solid 4K video quality
Cons:

  • A bit bulky
  • Not the best low-light performance
  • Not so great battery life
  • No touchscreen
  • Small buffer

Nikon COOLPIX P950

An Excellent, Feature-Rich Bridge Camera

nikon coolpix p950

Nikon COOLPIX P950 is an expensive, yet highly capable bridge camera that is fitted with the EXPEED Image Processor, 16MP CMOS sensor, and Dual Detect Optical VR. Equally importantly, it is equipped with a 2000mm zoom lens, 83X optical zoom, and 166X Dynamic Fine Zoom that altogether make a pretty good combination.

When you also add the excellent 5.5EV image stabilization and the 2359k-dot equivalent OLED viewfinder into the equation, the final result can be nothing else but sharp and clear images, as well as pretty good capture video quality. Nikon COOLPIX P950 is capable of capturing 30fps 4K videos, as well as 60fps, 30fps, and 25fps full HD videos. Moreover, it supports 7 fps continuous shooting, which isn’t much, yet should be enough for most users.

In addition, this camera also comes with a built-in Flash; ISO from 100 to 1600 (it can be extended to 6400), and both Wi-Fi and BT connectivity that should make your life much easier. Moreover, there is also a 3.2″ Vari-angle LCD screen, as well as a special Bird and Moon mode that will help you make wonderful pictures in that department. Furthermore, there is a decent Nikon EN-EL20a battery that doesn’t do wonders, yet should give you autonomy of some 290 shots.

To make things even better, there is also RAW imaging support and manual controls, which ultimately seals the deal and makes this camera a real jewel and one of the best bridge cameras you can find on the market.

Pros:

  • Compact
  • Portable
  • RAW imaging support
  • Very good image stabilization
  • Manual controls
  • 2000mm zoom lens
  • It can capture 30fps 4K UHD videos
Cons:

  • No-touch support

How to choose the best monopod

When choosing the best monopod, pay closer attention to these characteristics:

Height

One of the most important monopod characteristics is definitely its height. The higher it is, the better capabilities and greater versatility you have. Therefore, keep an eye on that when choosing the best monopod.

Weight capacity

Similar to height, weight capacity plays a highly important role when talking about a monopod’s overall quality. Not having enough capacity will limit the sort of equipment you may use and affect the monopod’s versatility.

For that reason, be sure that the chosen accessory has as much capacity possible and that it can hold at least a few kilograms on top of it.

Mounting

The last thing you need in your life is to spend a bunch of money on something you can’t use. Do your homework and check your camera’s mount type, and choose the monopod that complies with those standards.

How to Choose the Best SD Card

Although SD cards are highly important for keeping your data integrity, they are nowhere near complicated devices like hard drives, for instance, and offer a rather simple design. Their main characteristics may be summed into following:

Capacity

Capacity is one of the most important aspects of an SD card. The card itself can be blazing fast, but if it doesn’t have enough space, many of your works won’t be able to fit in it and that way it is ruined or half-finished. For that reason, carefully calculate what your real needs are and choose the card in accordance to your requirements.

Speed

Although it might not play a huge role for many, insufficient speed of an SD card can be a real issue, if you are into a 4K recording, for instance. On that account, be sure that the card’s performance can withstand your requirements and always go for at least a little bit higher speeds than you really need. That way, your choice will become future-proof.

Price

Large price is always an issue. For that reason, carefully asses each of your needs and market offerings and balance them out. Price isn’t always evidence of quality; therefore, do a little bit of research before the final decision.

Best SD Cards

Sony TOUGH-G series SDXC UHS-II Card

Great Choice for Professional Use

sony tough-g series sdxc uhs-ii card

If you’re looking for a professional/high-speed recording SD card, the Sony Tough-G series would definitely fit the bill. This is arguably one of the best SD cards in the industry in terms of structural rigidity, i.e. it’s built as a coffin nail.

To begin with, the Sony TOUGH-G series SDXC is 18 times stronger compared to a regular SD card, which means it’s almost impossible to break it, even if you want. Sony gives it a 10N rating, as well as IPX6 dust-proof and IPX8 waterproof ratings. And before you ask, yes, this SD toughie would survive nuclear apocalypse.

Seriously speaking, in terms of build quality, this is as good as it gets: it’s unbreakable, it will survive a dip in 5 meters of water for 3 days, and, on top of that, it’s blazing fast. And since we’re talking performance and toughness, let’s concentrate on speed for a moment: being a UHS-II card, the Tough-G series (also known as G-Shock) boasts 300 MB/s burst rates and 299 MB/s read and write speeds, and a minimum transfer rate for large folders of 90 MB/s, which is respectable, to say the least.

Even if this Sony SD card doesn’t come cheap, quality never is. Cheap we mean. So, yeah, if you’re looking for something out of this world in terms of durability, this is it. Cut and dried.

Pros:

  • Virtually indestructible
  • Smooth profile
  • Good for 8K recording
  • Fast transfer rates
  • Great for professional use
  • Reliable
Cons:

  • Pricey

SanDisk Extreme Pro SDXC UHS-I Card

A Great Value for the Money SD Card

sandisk extreme pro sdxc uhs-i card
SanDisk Extreme Pro SDXC UHS-I Card is a device that offers an ideal combination of performance, available capacities (from 16GB till 512GB) and price. Although it doesn’t represent the fastest option on the market, since it complies with UHS-I and not the UHS-II standard, its 95MBps speed is still good enough for 4K filming, but in general, is more suitable for sequential shootings in both JPEG and RAW formats. In other words, if you are a more demanding user, you should probably go for some faster models.

Overall, SanDisk Extreme Pro SDXC UHS-I Card is a decent SD card choice, with a lifetime warranty and a great overall value, but with a performance that just isn’t up to the standards of the best SD cards. Nevertheless, its reliability, great capacity and affordability make it a great buying choice.

Pros:

  • Nice performance
  • Lifetime warranty
  • Various capacities
Cons:

  • Speeds could be a bit faster

ProGrade SD UHS-II Card V60

The Ideal SD Card for Low Budgets

prograde digital store sd uhs-ii card v60
To begin with, we must mention that ProGrade is the new kid on the block, as in this is a relatively new company; however, the people who are behind ProGrade have decades of experience in the niche. With this in mind, the ProGrade Card V60 makes for a value-oriented SD card, which means it will provide you with the optimal bang for the buck asked.

There’s nothing fantastic about this SD card in terms of specs, but the price tag is delightfully low, i.e. this is a budget option for nonprofessionals requiring vast amounts of storage for peanuts money. However, even if you’ll get almost 2 GB/$1, write speed stands pretty at 130MB/s, which is not bad, and read speed is quoted at 250 MB/s.

All in all, if you want value for money and decent performance, the ProGrade SD UHS-II Card V60 would make for the sensible option, and it’s backed up by a solid 3-year warranty. How to Choose the Best Camera for YouTube

Everyone knows that choosing the cream of the crop is a tough task. Every time you think you have found the best of the lot there appears a new item that outshines everything you have seen before. And this process may seem to be endless.

But if you know exactly what to check before the purchase and what features the best YouTube camera must have, its selection won’t be so tiring and time-consuming. Here are some tips to remember when choosing a camera for YouTube vlogging.

What are you going to capture?

In order to decide which type of video resolution will be suitable for your vlogging it’s important to take into account the type of videos you want to produce. Sure, there is no camera with a sign “special for family vlogging” or something like that. However, if you know what you are going to capture it’s easier to find a suitable product.

If you need a camera for indoor videos only, then a budget DSLR camera may be enough. At the same time, vloggers who capture videos mostly outdoors won’t be satisfied with the same camera. Good lighting is one of the key features they should look for and cheap cameras can’t offer it. Besides, outdoor vlogging can require a highly portable camera especially if it’s about traveling or kids life.

Types of cameras

When looking for a YouTube camera you will find different types of products. All of them have their own pros and are more suitable for certain situations.

DSLR cameras

Everyone knows that Digital Single-Lens Reflex camera is great for top-notch shots. Such a camera will be also a nice option for vlogging. It allows you to change lenses and control ISO and depth of field. In addition, DSLR camera provides good low light performance and excellent image quality. On the other hand, it is pricey, usually heavy and bulky. Besides, DSLR camera will require time to learn how it works. You can check our list of the best DSLR cameras.

Mirrorless cameras

Unlike DSLRs, these cameras are light what makes them more portable and suitable for outdoor vlogging. Mirrorless cameras also include interchangeable lenses and produce accurate images.

Point and Shoot camera

Need something really compact? Point and shoot cameras are the best option in such a case. Still, keep in mind that they aren’t as powerful as DSLRs or mirrorless cameras.

Sports and Action cameras

This type of cameras is designed for an immersive perspective. Action cameras are usually strapped to your body, so you can easily go scuba diving or paragliding with them. What is more, they are small and comfortable to carry. Still, action cameras can’t boast of top-notch video quality like DSLRs.

Video Quality

Content isn’t the only thing that affects vlogging success. Whatever cool topic you are capturing it won’t bring you the best result if it’s of poor quality. So the first feature your YouTube camera should have is high video quality.

OK, there’s no doubt that superb video quality is great but what is really hidden behind these words? The best cameras have a big sensor size and high resolution. The latter one is especially important for videos.

Here are the main types of resolution a camera can have: HD, FHD and UHD. Let’s have a look at the main difference between them.

HD cameras offer only 720p resolution. In a word, that’s not enough for high-quality videos. Such cameras can be used as a budget option but if you need something really powerful then it’s better to avoid them.

Full HD resolution is the most popular nowadays. It’s a kind of happy medium on which you won’t spend a fortune but its final result will be quite decent. So, if you need a budget camera for YouTube videos pay attention at items with FHD resolution.

Still, the best camera you can choose for vlogging would be the one with 4K resolution. Remember that Ultra HD cameras are quite pricey, but the video quality they offer will blow your mind and will make your audience excited about it.

Frame Rate

YouTube camera should also have a proper frame rate. One may think that the higher it is the better quality it can provide. Unfortunately, if you are YouTube vlogger this rule doesn’t work. High frame rates are cool, especially for high-speed actions like marathons but if it’s a beauty vlog then 60 fps will be too much for it. The most popular frame rates for YouTube videos are 24fps and 30 fps.

Stabilization

Another crucial point to take into account before you purchase a camera is IS, aka image stabilization, as no one wants to get a low-quality image spoiled by various blurs.

Almost all modern cameras include IS option. There are three types of it – digital, dual optical stabilization. You can learn more about them here.

Display

There is no doubt that a camera should be comfortable in use. The display is one of those parts which are responsible for this characteristic. Make sure it is easy to operate especially outdoors as not all of the cameras provide clear image in the direct sunlight.

Audio

If you need a camera for shooting, audio quality may not be of high importance. But everything is absolutely different with YouTube videos. Obviously, a weird piercing voice won’t make your video more popular.

All cameras are equipped with a built-in microphone. Your task is to make sure that its quality is high. Note that DSLRs have much better sounding than action cameras. Anyway, you can always get an external mic for your camera to make it perfect for your vlogging.

Wi-Fi

Sure, YouTube vlogging presupposes an access to the Internet. So, if you are one of those enthusiasts who like sharing videos immediately after you have captured them, then the option of Wi-Fi will be a great bonus for you.

Weather sealing

This feature is important for outdoor vloggers. If you are a travel vlogger who works in the heavy rain then weather sealing is an integral part of your future YouTube camera. But if you go even further and take videos about underwater life then look for a waterproof camera.

Size and Weight

The last but not least thing to take into consideration before your purchase is the size of the camera and its weight. Remember that there are different types of cameras we have mentioned above, which vary in characteristics and have their own advantages.

Best YouTube Cameras

Canon EOS M6 Mark II

An Excellent Action-Based YouTube Camera

canon eos m6 mark ii
If you are after a quality camera that will deliver great image quality and good saturated video with accurate colors and plenty of detail, Canon EOS M6 Mark II should be your weapon of choice.

More importantly, it allows for uncropped 4K video capturing with a 30fps rate and 1080p one with 120fps rate. canon rebel sl3
For all the newbies on YouTube or similar platforms, it is essential to find a camera that is both decent-performing and affordable, and Canon Rebel SL3 is exactly that – the best DSLR camera for YouTube.

This camera offers fast and precise dual-pixel autofocus (unfortunately, only with nine AF points), it is supplied with a quality 24.1 Megapixel CMOS (APS-C) sensor and DIGIC 8 Image Processor, and more importantly, it delivers sharp and color accurate image in both video and photography. Moreover, it is equipped with eye and face detection and subject tracking and some handy features such as Time-lapse Movie mode and Creative Assist.

Sony RX100 VII has a super-fast auto-focus (0.02 seconds) and offers very useful Bluetooth and Wi-Fi networking for easier transferring of captured materials. Moreover, it supports for 4K video recording at 30fps and 1080p recording at 120fps rate, and more importantly, provides an excellent slow-motion video (1000fps) that, because of YouTube limitations (YouTube videos are limited to 60fps), has a limited potential (at least for now).

This camera comes fitted with a superb one-inch 20MP Exmor RS Stacked BSI-CMOS sensor and Zeiss Vario-Sonnar 24-200mm f/2.8-4.5 lens that are the key reasons for its excellent image quality and color accuracy and a very practical microphone input.

Sony ZV-1

The Best Compact Camera for Vlogging

sony zv-1 camera
Just like the Lumix G100, the ZV-1 from Sony is the company’s 1st camera designed specifically for vlogging. Hardware wise, the ZV-1 shares a lot of components with the RX100 family, including the imaging engine from the RX100 VII and the lens from the RX100 VA.

On top of that, you’ll love the friendly old-school design, the best in class internal mic, the flip forward LCD and the compact size which makes it extremely pocketable, if that’s a thing for you. The body is made from a composite material, which looks good and it’s very sturdy. There’s a little bit of metal around the lens, for improved protection, but the rest is kind of “plasticky”.

In terms of specs, the ZV-1 really shines due to its bright 24-70mm f/1.8-2.8 lens with Sony’s Real-time tracking and class-leading Real-time Eye AF systems, which are some of the best we’ve ever seen in a compact mirrorless. We must also mention that the ZV-1 is packed with cool features, including AF sensitivity options, a built-in ND filter, live streaming software for Windows, and profiles for users who want to color grade their videos, to name just a few.

Vlogging has gone from something people did for fun to a full-time profession for some. While there are a million different ways you can vlog today, you won’t get far without the best vlogging camera.

Unfortunately, choosing the right one can be extremely difficult when you’re just starting out. With that in mind, here are a few areas you will want to hone in on.

How to Choose the Best Vlogging Camera

What’s the style of your Vlog? Whether you already have an active audience or are just starting out, you have to think about your style first and foremost. A vlogger that focuses on tech or tutorials will want a camera capable of shooting clear, steady streams. On the flipside, someone who does a travel blog or is into action sports may want a completely different camera. What works for one, may not work for another so keep your needs in mind – especially if you’re a gamer.

Video Quality

If you were going to snap photos instead of shooting video, this is where we would talk about the size of the sensor and cover hardcore tech specs. Well, those are still important, but the resolution is the main specification vloggers need to keep in mind. In most cases, these are the three resolutions you’ll need to know.

  • HD – Whenever you see the term HD, it means 720p. By comparison, most smartphones and modern TV sets have higher resolution, so cameras in this class are usually in the budget range. Depending on your audience, HD is definitely not a bad thing.
  • FHD – If you want more clarity, FHD is your best bet. It’s a few rungs down from the highest resolution available, but 1080p is nothing to scoff at. At the moment, it’s the most common standard around and one that has yet to be surpassed by our next option. You will find some of the best budget vlogging cameras in this range.
  • UHD – UHD stands for “Ultra HD” otherwise known as 4K. Consumers that want the best vlogging camera and hate upgrading should go for a UHD camera. They aren’t necessarily cheap in most cases, but your audience will appreciate the uptick in sharpness and color.

Audio

Audio the other area you need to focus on although it’s something you can upgrade, unlike the sensor. If you sound like you’re talking with a mouth full of marbles, it’s safe to say you’ll lose a few viewers. While we can’t help people with shrill tones or mumbley mouths, a good vlogging camera can make your life a whole lot easier.

Every camera capable of video has a built-in microphone. To say the quality varies would be an understatement so consider an external microphone. There are dozens of options available, but RODE’s lineup is a good place to start if you want a great external mic for your vlog. If you want to learn more about the styles of microphones available, be sure to check this out.

Display

As we live in the technological age, you can find a display on everything from a refrigerator to the dashboard of your car. Cameras are no different, and high-end models have some pretty interesting displays. Some sit flush in the body like a regular camera, and while they will suffice, a pop-out display should be the first feature on your want list.

When vlogging, you typically need to get a look at yourself which is where this type of display shines. It’s also an area where you need to pay close attention as the way the display pivots and swivels makes a huge difference. Think about the style of videos you plan to shoot before you fall in love with a touchscreen display. The type of panel used is essential as well, especially if you’re working outdoors in direct sunlight.

Frame Rate

Instead of talking about the sensor size, we’re going to discuss frame rate; a term gamers will be very familiar with. The frame rate is measured in FPS which stands for frames per second, instead of first-person shooter this time around. That said, it’s something to take just as seriously if you want the best vlogging camera.

We’re not going to go too in-depth here. Higher frame rates are great, but 60fps could be overkill for your YouTube tutorial. For a more “dramatic” effect, you’ll want a lower frame rate somewhere along the lines of 24fps. High-speed action needs a higher frame rate, while the many folks stick to 30fps as it’s the most commonly accepted standard.

For consumers that need to shoot sports or take a lot of high motion shots, 60fps is the only way to go. An excellent vlogging camera will give you a wide range of options to choose from while others will stick you at one end of the spectrum. If you are unsure of the style you plan to shoot in; this will steer you in the right direction.

Bells, Whistles, and Battery Life

In the camera world, extra features can significantly raise the price so it’s an area where you’ll want to proceed with caution. Think about your needs before those extra bells & whistles as not everyone requires a touchscreen display, but there are a few things serious vloggers should not be without.

The first handy extra you’ll want to look for is Wi-Fi. It’s common on high-end cameras but hit or miss in the mid-range. We don’t need to explain why it’s essential, and NFC along with Bluetooth are two other popular options. Arguably more important than connectivity is something called OIS. This stands for optical image stabilization and is ideal if you’ve got shaky hands or hate tripods.

Outputs shouldn’t be overlooked either considering you can’t use an external microphone without one. Battery life is key as is the memory, both internal and external. The latter can sometimes vary, but every camera uses the SD standard. Unfortunately, it’s difficult to gauge battery life as it depends on the quality and length of the video you shoot. Regardless, always keep recording times in mind and plenty of SD cards at the ready.

Best Vlogging Cameras

Vlogging is a big business for some folks and a hobby for others. Regardless of where you stand, if you want people to tune in, you need more than a good personality. A great script will help although you won’t get far without the best vlogging camera. Whether you’re looking for the best mirrorless camera for vlogging or something a bit simpler, we have you covered.

Canon EOS M6 Mark II

Flagship Performance with Some Caveats

canon eos m6 mark ii
Even if some people describe the EOS M6 Mark II as a flawed flagship, the amount of performance delivered by this tiny mirrorless camera is outstanding. The EOS M6 Mark II comes with a high-res sensor, Canon’s latest 32.5-megapixel (and all-new) variety, which makes it arguably the best high-res-crop-sensor gadget money can buy. Also, the shooting speed is impressive for a mirrorless, and even the autofocus system has been improved with the company’s excellent Dual Pixel technology.

Okay, so what’s flawed, you may ask? Well, to begin with, there’s no EVF and the 4K videos are not the best in the business, to say the least. However, since we’re talking about the best mirrorless cameras for vlogging, the coolest thing about the EOS M6 Mark II is that it delivers full sensor 4K, rather than cropped, and it’s also priced competitively (some may say aggressively) with rival mirrorless cameras, such as the XT-30 from Fujifilm, or Nikon’s Z50, which is incidentally the company’s first-ever APS-C based mirrorless model.

Pros:

  • very good AF system performance, amazing shooting speeds
  • ergonomic design with good handling
  • high quality (color accurate and detailed) stills
  • highest-res sensor available
  • compact size makes it great for travelers
Cons:

  • lacks electronic viewfinder
  • 4K not as good as rivals
  • native lens range severely limited

Olympus Tough TG-6

The Best Go-Anywhere Camera

olympus tough tg-6
Next we have the Olympus Tough TG-6, which makes for a compact, waterproof and obviously tough as nails 12 MP camera with image stabilization and GPS tracking functionality. Speaking of tough, the TG-6 is shockproof from 7ft, waterproof to 50ft and crushproof to 220lbs, not to mention dustproof. What really makes this Olympus to stand out from the crowd, besides its tank-like build quality obviously, which makes it a “lone” survivor especially for vloggers who enjoy live-streaming extreme sports, is its impressive macro performance and the advanced controls.

Basically, if you’re shopping for a “G-shock” camera capable of 4K/30 FPS video, the Olympus Tough TG-6 plays in the best bang for the buck category, having a very bright lens and excellent underwater photography capabilities, features that make it a great choice for those of you traveling a lot. The built-in GPS logging thing and the Wi-Fi connectivity that allows you to control the camera by remote or transfer images quickly are particularly useful for vloggers on the run, along with high-speed continuous shooting.

Pros:

  • can survive a nuclear war in a compact and light form-factor
  • bright lens/rear LCD, support for RAW images
  • impressive image quality for such a small camera
  • amazing macro performance, 4K video recording, high speed 1080p video

fujifilm x-t4
Fujifilm X-T4 is a refined, high-quality built camera that delivers exceptional performance in both the video and image department, making it a great option for beginners, as well as experienced photographers and vlogging professionals.

It is packed with plenty of, extremely handy and useful, features such as 6.5-stop (five-axis) in-body stabilization; a great 26.1MP APS-C X-Trans CMOS 4 sensor, and X Processor 4, as well as the great new NP-W235 battery that should give you some 500 shots per charge.

In terms of performance, Fujifilm X-T4 can shoot very detailed 60 fps 4K and super-slow motion 240 fps Full HD videos, as well as 10-bit F-Log footage. Also, it offers 15 fps burst shooting with and 20fps burst shooting without a mechanical shutter, as well as allow for multiple customization options that, on the other hand, might be a bit too complicated for many.

Fujifilm X-T4 supports ISO from 160 to 12800 (80 to 51200 extended), offers USB Type-C connectivity, and comes with a lightweight construction (it weighs only 607 g) that makes it one of the more portable vlogging cameras out there.

The point being, Fujifilm X-T4 has everything you might need from the best vlogging camera and much more, which ultimately makes it an exceptional choice, of course, if it’s a bit higher price tag isn’t a problem for you.

Sony RX100 VII

High-Tech Pocket Camera

sony rx100 vii
If you’re a vlogger working with a generous budget, the Sony RX100 VII comes to mind. Think along the lines of the Apollo space program and you’ll get it: this Sony is absolutely fantastic in terms of technology and build quality, but premium gear comes at premium prices. Everything is great about this compact camera, at least on paper: the 24-200mm lens is impressive, the size is ideal, Sony’s latest AF system is almost godlike, then there’s the high-speed (more like ultra-speed) shooting thing.

To make it real simple, the Sony RX100 VII checks all the important boxes in our list, including the more-than-adequate 20-megapixel 1-inch sensor hidden inside the camera’s diminutive body. But what’s really important is that the RX100 VII is a remarkable technological achievement, hence if you’re looking for one of the best compact cameras out there (zoom range, ludicrous high-speed shooting, 4K video@30 FPS, state of the art AF system) and you’re ready to pay the price, well, it doesn’t get any better than this one.

Pros:

  • high tech and lightning-fast AF system
  • amazing 4K video
  • compact and light
  • sports full-range connectivity (NFC, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi)
  • solid build quality, excellent grip
  • low noise, tons of features, great face-detection
Cons:

  • crazy-expensive
  • mediocre battery life

GoPro HERO10

One of the Best Vlogging Cameras out There

gopro hero10

Although pricey, GoPro HERO10 is one of the best vlogging cameras available, due to its excellent image quality that comes as a result of the powerful image stabilization, 23.6MP sensor, as well as a strong GP2 processor that are doing miracles for this camera.

However, that is only the beginning, because this camera also brings great versatility that allows its use for streaming, action videos, as well as vlogging. Moreover, it comes with excellent connectivity that includes a wired USB connection, Bluetooth, as well a Wi-Fi connection. Also, there are many other features such as the 8x slo-mo (at 2.7K resolution), Hypersmooth 4.0 for smoothing 1080p videos, and both rear and front well-articulated touchscreens.

In addition, GoPro HERO10 can make 30 shots in burst mode and supports 60fps 5.3K and 120fps 1080p video capturing. Its image quality is detailed, with excellent contrast and textures. In other words, great work is guaranteed.

Sony Alpha a6400

Solid Mid-Range Camera for Vloggers

sony alpha a6400
The Sony Alpha A6400 is the latest member of the company’s mid-range mirrorless cameras and some say it’s just a minor upgrade over the previous A6300. However, there’s nothing minor about the a6400’s highly advanced AF system, which is incredibly well implemented, and that’s really something for a camera that costs well under one thousand bucks.

So, what do you get for that kind of money, besides state of the art autofocus? First, there’s the 24.2MP APS-C CMOS sensor, then you get 4K video recording and a cool tilt-angle touchscreen and electric viewfinder.

However, tech specs aside, the Sony a6400 seems focused on photography enthusiasts looking for speedy performance, i.e. wildlife and sports photographers, or, why not, vloggers, and that’s due to the camera’s new feature that allows you to position the LCD at a 180-degree angle. Unfortunately, there’s no body stabilization, so you’ll have to rely on lens stabilization, but the new Real-Time Tracking” and “Real-Time Eye AF” features are worth the stretch.

Pros:

  • good burst shooting speed, excellent AF system
  • plenty of video features, bright viewfinder
  • great value for money
  • speedy performance, solid image quality
  • Eye AF is exceptional and easy to use
Cons:

  • lacks body image stabilization
  • no headphone jack

Canon EOS 5D Mark IV
We’ve decided to start our list of best Canon cameras with the one which was commonly acknowledged as one of the most advanced digital cameras. A case in point is Canon EOS 5D Mark IV.

Just have a look at this beauty of the photography world. It’s a decent rival for such giants as Nikon or Sony high-end models. This representative of DSLR cameras was released in August 2016 and since that time has been steadily taking the first places of the market rating.

So, what’s so special about Canon EOS 5D Mark IV? This camera has a nice 61-point autofocus due to which the photos are always accurate and fine. In fact, that’s one of the best results you can find nowadays as other cameras have no more than 51-point autofocus. As to the shooting speed, it reaches up to 7 fps.

Canon EOS 5D Mark IV has also got a full-frame APS-C CMOS sensor and as we know such sensor type prevents any risks of cropping because it is aimed at wide-angle photography. What is more, its DIGIC 6+ image processor provides fast focusing and has an option of noise reduction at high ISOs.

Note that ISO range of this Canon camera can be expended form 100-32,000 up to 50-102,400. Thus, it is adaptable to any light conditions. Besides, this model has 30.4 megapixels which help to make pictures sharper.

Canon EOS 5D Mark IV is good not only at taking pictures. Videos produced by this camera are definitely worth your attention too. This one of the best full-frame Canon cameras captures movies in 4K 2160p Motion JPEG. There are also options of Full HD up to 60p and HD up to 120p. Furthermore, its 150,000-pixel RGB+IR metering sensor makes it possible to get precise exposure metering and detect flickering lights.

Despite the wide range of various options, Canon EOS 5D Mark IV is quite simple in use. It has a clear button panel and has such additional functions as GPS and Wi-Fi. Still, bear in mind that this Canon camera is pricey and costs about $3,500.

Canon Rebel SL3

The Best Entry-Level DSLR

canon rebel sl3
If you’re looking for a 4K video capable DSLR for beginners, look no further, as you’ve just found it. To describe the Rebel without a cause in a few words, we would say that the SL3 makes for a basic DSLR that’s compact and light as a feather, incredibly easy to use, with great battery life and, very importantly, takes more than decent pictures. Oh, and another important thing for beginners: it doesn’t cost an arm and a leg.

Basically, this baby is the old Rebel SL2 made better, i.e. the SL3 comes with a faster processor, which is also better in regard to battery management, and 4K video capabilities. But wait, there’s more, as Canon added into the mix a cool continuous eye-detection AF feature, plus an excellently designed user interface, that’s very user-friendly, not to mention the fully articulated touchscreen (side hinged), which is any vlogger’s wet-dream. To sum it up, the Rebel SL3 is comfy to hold, fun and easy to use, takes great pics/vids under a wide range of circumstances, and the cherry on top, it boasts insane battery life IF you’re using the optical viewfinder.

Canon 90D Digital SLR Camera

All-Rounder DSLR

canon 90d
The Canon EOS 90D is an interesting option if you’re shopping for a “jack of all trades” midrange DSLR from the “granddaddy” of the genre. The main selling point of this “Gentle Giant” is arguably Canon’s highest-res (so far) all-new 32mp APS-C CMOS sensor, which allows full width 4K/Full HD 1080p video recording, plus high-speed shooting. To make a long story short, if you’re a “videographer”, you can’t go wrong with the EOS 90D, which is a compelling choice for those shopping for a “true DSLR” with 10 FPS continuous shooting and high-res images/videos.

The 32mp sensor in the EOS 90D is the highest-res available on the market today (APS-C), and proves that despite the “rise of the mirrorless”, there’s still life in the old DSLR. As usual, the grip is deep and well-contoured, which makes the EOS 90D a pleasure to use, even if we’re talking “binge photography shootouts”, and battery life is also impressive, to say the least. If you’re looking for a fully-featured DSLR and you’re not ready yet to jump ship to a mirrorless, the EOS 90 makes for a strong all-round option.

Pros:

  • cutting edge Digic 8 image processor & all-new 32.5MP APS-C sensor

Canon EOS M50 Mark II

Great Starter Camera

Canon EOS M50 Mark II
With a retail price of way-less than $1000, the Canon EOS M50 Mark II is a complete solution for amateur photographers looking for a no-nonsense dedicated camera. Think about vlogging and the like, and you’ll understand what the deal is with the Canon EOS M50 Mark II.

The second gen fixed most of what was wrong with the Mark I, and it makes for a great place to start if you’re ready to jump in the content-creation racket. Seriously speaking, to describe it best, we would say that the EOS M50 Mark II is a feature packed little camera, yet it’s only a minor update over gen 1.

By minor update, we are talking about adding an eye AF feature, and the ability to shoot vertical video. The rest is pretty much the same. So, to begin with, both internally and externally, the Canon EOS M50 Mark II is pretty much the same deal as the original EOS M50.

One of the main assets of Gen-2 is the new video-recording button placed on the touchscreen, and a movie self-timer that gives you between two to ten seconds to prepare yourself before the camera starts to record, i.e. this camera is great for content creators/live streamers etc.

The camera is relatively small and light, and it will not disappoint, especially if you’re a beginner. The updated AF and eye detection systems work great, and tech-specs wise, you’ll get a 24.1MP APS-C CMOS sensor, cropped 4K/25p video, high speed video@100fps in 720p resolution, a 2.36-million dot EVF, and the old-school Digic 8 image processor.

Interestingly enough, the Mark 2 can shoot at up 10fps bursts in Single AF mode and 7.4fps when in Continuous AF mode, which is not bad for such an affordable camera, and the battery is rated for 305 shots.

Pros:

  • Eye AF
  • Good dynamic range
  • Sharp images
  • Well controlled noise
  • Snappy AF
  • Compact and lightweight
Cons:

  • No USB charging

  • Built-in ND filters
  • 30fps burst mode

Nikon Z 6II

All Rounder Full Frame Mirrorless

Nikon Z 6II
As expected from a company like Nikon, the Z 6II is an improvement over an already near-perfect mirrorless camera. To be more precise, this is the follow-up to the Z6, Nikon’s first full frame mirrorless camera, which was first released back in 2018 if memory serves.

The Z 6II addresses all Z6’s weaknesses, while inheriting the main features of the latter, including the excellent 24.5MP BSI CMOS sensor with fabulous image quality and plenty of detail, solid dynamic range and impressive high-ISO noise performance.

While the Z 6II keeps an “old” sensor, Nikon threw into the mix a second EXPEED 6 image processor, which, needless to say, dramatically boosts overall performance. To be more precise, the Z 6II saw an increase in burst shooting speed, to 14 fps from 12 fps. The extra processing power also improved the 273-point AF system, as well as general performance, including the ability to focus in darker conditions.

Eye/face detection are available in the Z 6II in Wide area AF mode, plus a solid set of video specifications, the likes of shooting oversampled 4K for footage with plenty of detail, 4K capture up to 60p, and even capturing 10-bit HLG HDR footage to an external recorder.
Build quality and design are top notch, as the Z 6II is features weather sealing, magnesium allow for body parts, and a very comfy grip.
In terms of ergonomics, the Z 6II is one of the best mirrorless camera out there when it comes to “shooting stuff”, and we absolutely love the revamped 3.69 million-dot electronic viewfinder and the improved battery life over the Z6.

  • Capable AF performance
  • 14fps burst shooting speed
  • Excellent sharpness and detail

Nikon D6

Almost Overkill for Most Photographers

Nikon D6
If you’re looking for a reliable and powerful workhorse, the Nikon D6 is the answer, that provided you can live with the price tag, which is ample. The D6 features Nikon’s most powerful AF system to date, being a high-end full frame flagship camera, and comes loaded with a high density all cross type fully selectable auto focus sensor, and the latest image processing engine in the business.

The D6 is a fast action 14 FPS camera, which can mitigate the toughest of assignments, due to its triple density, 105-point fully selectable, all cross-type sensor AF.

Basically, if you’re a professional photographer who already invested heavily in Nikon’s ecosystem, the D6 is a fantastic option, especially if you can afford it. For example, if you already own a number of Nikon lenses, the D6 would make for a spectacular asset for sports shooters and/or wildlife photographers, due to its stellar autofocus performance.

The D6 is built around a 20.8MP full-frame sensor, and has a better processor, and full compatibility with CFExpress cards, plus inbuilt Wi-Fi.

Still image quality is excellent, yet keep in mind that the D6 is bulky and heavy, and truth be told, that makes you feel like a real photographer when carrying it.

This big solid beast of a camera is naturally overkill for most photographers out there, as it offers 14 frames per second shooting and a brand-new 105-point, all cross-type focusing system, plus Eye AF in 3D Tracking and Auto Area AF modes, Wi-Fi and GPS built-in, not to mention very good image quality.

This is the first DX mirrorless camera in the Nikon portfolio and it’s an excellent product that delivers photos and videos of amazing quality.

Nikon Z fc

A Modern Take on Old School Cameras

Nikon Z fc
The Nikon Z fc looks like a seventies camera, but in reality it’s a plastic-made DX format mirrorless modern technical wonder with a price just a little bit over $1000 with a NIKKOR Z 28mm f/2.8 (SE) lens.

As expected, the Z fc is aimed at amateur photographers, and it can be best described as a triumph of design at an honest price. To make a long story short, the Nikon Z fc is designed to deliver a different shooting experience compared to a Z50 at an affordable price, and that’s great in our book.

There’s no weather proofing in the Z fc, and the large full frame sensor is missing in action, but the vari angle screen is awesome, and embodies the company’s fusion concept, as in “new meets old” in a cool kind of way.

Let’s talk a little shop, shall we? We must begin with the fact that the Z fc is the second mirrorless camera from Nikon to feature an APS-C crop sensor, after the Z50 of course. The Z50 and the Z fc are basically the same under the hood, but the shooting experience is very different, due to design differences.

The f thing stands for fusion, and the Z fc is inspired from a serious full frame workhorse, the Nikon FM2 respectively, i.e. it’s a camera that will last you for years if taken care of.

The specs are respectable, i.e. you’ll end up with a 20.9MP sensor, 4K video capability up to 30fps, continuous tracking AF for basically anything, and an excellent vari-angle touch screen.

So, bottom line, if you’re looking for old school design with modern technology and functionality, and you can live with an all plastic design (the FM2 was metal), the Nikon Z fc will definitely fit the bill in all respects.

Pros:

  • Retro design
  • 11fps burst shooting
  • Tracking AF
  • ISO 100-51,200
  • Good value
  • Useful touch screen
Cons:

  • Lacks UHS-II support

Nikon COOLPIX P1000

Awesome Point and Shoot Nikon Camera Under $1000

nikon coolpix p1000
Nikon COOLPIX P1000 is another camera worth a closer look. This one of the best point and shoot cameras has awesome telescope-like zoom thanks to its powerful 3000mm equivalent NIKKOR ED glass lens. And all this is hidden in a compact bridge zoom camera design.

Note that smooth control ring lets you adjust focus in MF mode or exposure as well as white balance or ISO in AF mode just from the lens barrel without even looking away from the viewfinder.

All images produced by this point and shoot camera are always accurate and sharp as there is a built-in image stabilization that comes with a Dual Detect Optical Vibration Reduction system which stabilizes both vertical and horizontal movements. Nikon Z 7II

Incremental Upgrade to the Z7 -1 at a More Affordable Base Price

Nikon Z 7II
The Nikon Z 7II is an FX format full-frame mirrorless camera that retails currently for approximately $3000, give or take, and it’s basically the second-gen Z7, with increased processing power and added support for dual-memory cards.

Compared to the previous generation, the Z7 2 is a bit faster, and the support for dual memory cards will definitely please the pros, yet its AF system is not quite on par with the best in the business. However, considering the price and the stellar 45MP image sensor, the Z7 2 is still one of the best mirrorless digital cameras around.

Another design improvement worth mentioning is the support for a proper vertical grip, which was an issue with the previous generation, and to describe it in a few words, we would say that the Nikon Z 7II is priced and built for professional photographers and/or serious hobbyists with a lot of money to spend.

The body is built using magnesium alloy, and features high quality components, including internal sealing to protect against dust and splashes. The camera comes in at 4.0 by 5.3 by 2.7 inches (HWD) and weighs 1.4 pounds, and features IBIS aka in-body image stabilization.

Strangely enough, Nikon failed to add a multi shot mode, a feature common in high-end cameras. Ergonomics are top notch, menus are easy to navigate through a 4-way directional pad or via touch, you get all the connectivity features you’ll ever need, stuff like Wi-Fi 2.4GHz and 5GHz, Bluetooth 4.2, USB-C, mini HDMI, GPS, microphone, and headphone, plus a 3690k-dot OLED EVF, with 100% coverage, and 0.8x magnification.

The camera uses a Dual-core EXPEED 6 image processor, 493-point hybrid phase/contrast AF, has an ISO range of 64 to 25,600 (exp. 32-102,400), and in terms of video capability, you get uncropped 4K UHD up to 30p, and cropped 4K UHD up to 60p.

Pros:

  • Perfect silent operation
  • Phenomenal optics
  • Superb image quality
  • Assignable buttons
  • Excellent rear screen&viewfinder
  • Amazing UI and ergonomics
  • IPX rating
  • Legacy lens support
Cons:

  • Not the best AF system

Sony RX100 VII

A Dazzling Performance Followed by an Equally Dazzling Price

sony rx100 vii
Sony offers a lot of high-quality cameras in its portfolio and RX100 series with its latest Mark VII iteration is certainly one of the better-positioned members of that “squad”. It is compact, fast and offers excellent video quality; characteristics appreciated by an every true camera fan.
Sony RX100 VII comes equipped with an excellent one-inch 20MP Exmor RS Stacked BSI-CMOS sensor (the same one you can find on Mark VI) and the equally amazing 24-200mm f/2.8-4.5 Zeiss Vario-Sonnar lens that is the main reason for its crisp and detailed video and photo image. Moreover, this camera is fitted with retractable EVF with a 2.36 million-dot resolution, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity and most importantly Real-time Tracking and Real-time Eye AF that are the key reason for its super-fast 0.02 seconds auto-focus performance.

This camera supports 30fps 4K recording and 120fps 1080p recording and allows for burst shooting at respectable 20fps and impressive 90fps in single Burst Shooting Mode. Also, it will let you capture high-speed videos with 1000fps rate, which makes it ideal for extreme sports lovers who like to record their every stunt.

Although impressive, Sony RX100 VII still has a few drawbacks. First of all, it’s the high price, as well as not that great ergonomic shape and lack of ND filter that makes capturing videos in bright light quite difficult. Nevertheless, this camera is one of the best there is and without a doubt the best compact Sony camera there is.

Pros:

  • Excellent 4K video
  • Amazing AF speed
Cons:

  • Modest battery life

Sony Alpha 7C

A Compact Full Frame Mirrorless Camera From Sony

sony alpha 7c
Even if the Sony Alpha 7C was released last September, it’s still one of the best full-frame mirrorless cameras in 2021. Retailing for a little bit less than $2k, this is the epitome of Sony’s obsession with crafting small and super-high-tech cameras.
The Alpha 7C is the successor of the famous Alpha 7 and Alpha 7R, released almost ten years ago, which were the world’s first full-frame mirrorless cameras. While the Alpha 7C retains the same SLR design, it has become larger and, obviously, better from all points of view.

To begin with design, the Alpha 7C is clearly not pocketable nor exceptionally small, yet it feels rock-solid and will not slip out of your hands, being fairly easy to carry, i.e. it’s basically the perfect type of small camera, if such a thing even exists. Connectivity is taken care of by a mic port, a headphone jack, a micro HDMI port, a USB-C port, and one SD card slot, all of which are protected by hinged doors.

There’s also a fully-articulated screen, which is fairly easy to flip around, whip up and play with according to your needs, and needless to say, it feels sturdy and well built.

In essence, the Sony Alpha 7C is a 24 MP advanced full-frame mirrorless camera, featuring a BSI-CMOS sensor, a fully articulated touchscreen, built-in image stabilization and Sony E Lens mount. What’s really cool about this camera is that its high-end imaging hardware boasts impressive specs for the price, i.e. the 24 MP sensor offers a sensitivity range of ISO 100-51,200, plus extended settings ranging from ISO 50 to 204,800.

Moreover, the sensor works in tandem with a Bionz X processor, which is the exact same model employed in the top of the line Alpha 7R IV, and supports shooting @10 fps, with a 115-frame raw buffer, or 8fps with live view between frames. We must also mention the hybrid AF system, that uses 693 phase-detection points and 425 contrast-detection points, and it makes for the company’s industry-leading AI-based autofocus technology.

Needless to say, you’ll also benefit from Sony’s excellent Real-time Eye AF and Real-Time Tracking. Video recording options include 4K resolution at up to 30 fps, or Full HD up to 120fps. Finally, you can connect the Alpha 7C to your smartphone via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth using the free Imaging Edge Mobile app for Android and iOS.

Pros:

  • Impressive image quality
  • Superb AF system
  • Solid battery life
  • USB charging
  • 5-axis stabilization
  • Stellar video capabilities
  • Very portable for a full-frame
Cons:

  • Cramped hand grip

sony alpha 7r iv
Finding a high-quality camera among the Sony devices is something rather usual; however, finding one that offers great image quality, excellent autofocus and great versatility, narrows the search a bit, and the first name that should come to your mind in that case, is Sony Alpha 7R IV.

Moreover, it is equipped with 5.76M dot OLED viewfinder, two SD UHS-II slots, and offers decent connectivity with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and NFC connections.

Furthermore, it provides for 10fps burst shooting and comes fitted with an excellent hybrid auto-focus (567 Phase detection AF points and 425 contrast AF points), as well as Real-time tracking and Real-time Eye-tracking that are delivering the extremely sharp and detailed image.

Overall, if you want the best Sony camera, Sony Alpha 7R IV is pretty much the top of the offering and more importantly, a device that will amaze you.

Sony ZV-1

The Pocket Rocket

sony zv-1
The Sony ZV1-1 would make for the ideal choice if you’re an avid vlogger looking for an affordable compact camera. Basically, the ZV-1 was specifically designed for content creators, YouTubers and vloggers, and it features an excellent flip screen plus a powerful mic, all for less than $1k. What’s not to like, right?

Despite its relatively low price, the Sony ZV-1 is the best pocket vlogging camera money can buy, and includes highly advanced features borrowed from the Sony RX100 series, like its class-leading AF system, which combined with design tweaks make the ZV-1 the perfect choice for shooting videos from the hip.

Arguably, the main selling point of the Sony ZV-1 is the combo between Sony’s Real-time tracking and Real-time Eye AF systems and a bright 24-70mm f/1.8-2.8 lens, which work alongside its 1’s 1-inch sensor to produce high-quality vlogs, with consistent focus and a pleasing background blur.

The camera also offers a 3.5 mm mic port, so you can add high-quality audio to your videos, and even a hotshue mount, which allows you to improve you street-art capabilities by using a LED light or a shotgun microphone.

Windows users also get live streaming capabilities, and all these things put together make for an incredibly powerful compact camera.

Bottom line, this is arguably the best video all-rounder in its class.

Pros:

  • Industry-leading AF
  • Bright lens
  • Pocketable
  • Side-flipping screen
  • Hotshoe and 3.5mm mic port
  • Instant bokeh mode
  • Impressive mic quality
Cons:

  • Complicated UI

Sony Alpha a6400

A More Budget-Oriented Sony Camera

sony alpha a6400
If you are after a solid Sony camera that offers a lot of customization options, great auto-focus and overall delivers a good-quality photo and video, Sony Alpha a6400 is the device for you. Although it isn’t cheap, it is still much more affordable than, for instance, Sony Alpha 7R IV or Sony a9 II; therefore, it’s much more budget-oriented and with a pretty good value for the money.

Sony Alpha a6400 is equipped with a 24MP APS-C sensor and a new Bionz X processor, that are the most responsible for its quality image delivery, as well as amazing auto-focus with 425-pt phase detection and Real-Time Tracking that is doing miracles for a wide variety of Sony cameras.

This camera offers good connectivity with Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and NFC and a rather disappointing SD slot compatibility, since the slot supports only UHS-I standard. Moreover, a6400 allows for 30fps 4K recording and 11fps burst shooting and offers decent ISO range from 100 to 3200.

On the other hand, this camera lacks the in-body stabilization and RAW processing; nevertheless, it offers many useful features such as great battery life, USB charging, weather-proof design, slow motion 1080p video, and most importantly, detailed and color-accurate imagery.

Altogether, Sony Alpha a6400 isn’t a perfect device. However, if you want the best budget Sony camera, be aware that this one offers pretty much the best ratio of features and the price.

Pros:

  • Great customization options
  • Amazing auto-focus
  • Good battery life
  • Excellent 4K video

How to Find the Best Point and Shoot Camera

Point and Shoot cameras are a dime-a-dozen these days, so you don’t have to look hard to find one. Choosing the right one to suit your needs and fit your budget is a bit different, however, which is where our buying guide comes into play.

Sensor Size

As you’d expect, the number of megapixels matter although not as much as you might think. A 21MP camera with a large sensor can outperform a camera with more megapixels and a smaller sensor – especially in conditions with low light. If you’d like to learn more sensors, you may want to give this a look.

Ease of Use

If you’re shopping for a point and shoot camera, there’s a strong chance you want a digital device that’s easy to use. Well, many cameras in this class are simple, but some of the pro-level models confound beginners.

When ease of use is high on your list, look for a camera with plenty of “automatic” features and modes. That includes cameras with a built-in flash and one or more viewfinders. You can even find cameras with traditional controls if you’re making the switch from 35mm to your first digital camera.

EVF and LCD

All of the point and click cameras on our list have an LCD display on the back which lets you see the action as you would on a smartphone or slate. While the resolution of that panel is essential, articulation is critical as well. If you want the best, you’ll want a camera with a fully articulated touchscreen display… not one with a fixed unresponsive panel.

An electronic viewfinder or EVF is another thing to have high on your list. It’s the “eyepiece” on a traditional camera, but can be optical or digital on point and click cameras. It’s usually the latter and most, but not all cameras will have an EVF to go along with the LCD.

Image Stabilization

Snapping a photograph isn’t hard, but taking a good one can be tricky. That’s where a camera with a great image stabilization system comes in handy. Anti-shake tech comes in many forms, but an in-body 5-axis system is ideal and something you can find on a wide range of devices. At a minimum, you will want a camera with OIS, which stands for optical image stabilization.

Sharing Features

Whether you live on Facebook or prefer Instagram, we live in a connected age. One benefit of point and click cameras are the sharing features something that’s rather common in this range. Bluetooth is a lock although you’ll want to consider the version if you’re looking at an older model. Each new version improves connectivity, so you don’t want to be stuck with 4.0 when Bluetooth 4.2 is an option.

If you want GPS, you’re going to have to pay a pretty penny or just up to a DLSR or action cam, but Wi-Fi is another common feature in the connectivity department. As for NFC, that’s typically found on high-end cameras but is certainly an option.

Battery Life

It doesn’t matter if you prefer Sony’s cameras or are buying your first Pentax, it’s all for naught if your battery dies at a critical moment. Sure, you’ll get a warning before the gauge hits zero but how many shots you can take on per charge varies across the board. It also means you need to consider picking up extra batteries along with the charging methods.

Rechargeable batteries are a consumer’s best friend and can save the day when your camera dies. The ability to swap out cells on the fly is ideal, but so is built-in charging. Depending on your budget, that’s a feature that could be out of reach although one you’ll find on some mid-range point and shoot cameras.

Other Things to Consider…

While those are the main areas we feel are important when looking for the best point and shoot camera, there are a few other areas you’ll want to keep in mind.

Do you plan on shooting a lot of videos? Well, be sure to check out the external jacks. They aren’t much use if you’re taking portraits or selfies, but an external microphone can make a huge difference for aspiring videographers.

Connectivity options and memory card slots are two more areas to keep in mind. Every camera on our list will have a measure of connectivity, but GPS and NFC are usually reserved for high-end models. Wi-Fi is somewhat standard along with Bluetooth. Slots vary across the board although you’ll want the USH-II is what you’ll want to shoot for when you want the best.

Fujifilm X100V

The Best Point and Shoot Camera for Street Photography

fujifilm x100v digital camera
It’s black, compact, looks retro, and, after all’s said and done, it’s a “point and shoot” thing. There’s nothing fancy about the Fujifilm X100V, the epitome of simplicity and ergonomic design. Yet, under its unassuming skin, you’ll discover one Hell of a camera, a very special toy which may very well be the best of its kind.

What do we mean by this? Even if we live in the age of the ubiquitous smartphone, i.e. decent photo/video capability on-demand, the X100V is proof that if you want more, well, everything is possible. So, what is it? A relatively expensive premium compact camera, with excellent genes, a bigger than life APS-C sensor, a fixed 23mm f/2 lens and a rather unique hybrid rangefinder.

So, if you think you’ve got what it takes to become the next internet sensation (read vlogger/street snapper), the X100V would make for the sensible choice. You’ll definitely love the tilting touchscreen, the magnesium alloy frame/aluminum plated body, which looks and feels like a million bucks, and the fact that this tiny camera shoots videos and pics just as well as it feels in your hand.

Another cool thing about this Fujifilm camera is that it comes with physical controls/features that do not compromise its size or its looks, and by that we refer to the tilting touchscreen, which is great for street photography, as it allows you to “point and shoot” from the hip.

Pros:

  • Premium build quality
  • Minimalistic design
  • Unique hybrid viewfinder
  • Shoots 4K video
  • Improved AF and sensor
  • Sharp lens
Cons:

  • Lacks optical stabilization
  • Expensive

Canon PowerShot G5 X Mark II

A Lot of Power in a Small Pack

canon powershot g5 x mark ii
Although a small size usually presents a limiting factor, Canon PowerShot G5 X Mark II proves that in certain iterations that can actually be an advantage. In other words, Canon has taken the best of both worlds and as a result, produced one of the best point-and-shoot cameras for the money and overall, a very powerful photography tool.

Canon PowerShot G5 X Mark II comes with 20.1-megapixel one-inch type CMOS sensor, 24-120mm f/1.8-2.8 (5x optical zoom) lens and numerous additional features such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, USB Type-C port, Pop-up electronic viewfinder and a lot more.

More importantly, this camera is capable of providing high-quality images, with natural-looking colors and a lot of details. However, its autofocus, although fast, doesn’t show the best results during video recording and action photography and it kind of limits the usage of this camera to the street and still photography.

When talking about video, Canon PowerShot G5 X Mark II allows for 4K (30fps) and 1080p (120fps) video recording and provides a solid picture quality, but as mentioned, sports and other fast-moving action aren’t really its thing. Moreover, this camera supports for 8fps continuous shooting when autofocus is on and the very good 20fps without it, and altogether presents a solid device, ideal for point and shoot fans not that impressed by action photography.

Pros:

  • Compact size
  • Excellent image quality
  • Versatile
Cons:

  • Poor battery
  • Troubling autofocus during video recording

Canon PowerShot SX740

Budget-Friendly Option

canon powershot sx740
If you’re looking for the best DSLR camera, you’ll find a Canon ranked high on any list. The company knows how to make solid compact cameras as well like the SX740. It’s a connected camera with a slew of user-friendly features that produces vibrant home videos and snapshots without breaking the bank.

The Canon SX740 may look like a modern version of your grandmother’s camera, but it’s full of high-tech features. You can hone in on your subject with the 40x optical zoom and lock them in with framing assist. If you prefer taking photos of yourself, you’ll appreciate the large 3” tilting touchscreen which swivels 180-degrees upwards towards the front. It’s also light at only 10.5 ounces and easy to handle with the textured panel on the front.

As for the tech specs, this camera has a 20.3MP CMOS sensor and an ISO range of 100 to 1600. That range could be better but is par for the course in this class. 4K UHD video looks great at 30p and burst shooting is speedy with a rate of 7.4 fps thanks to the Digic 8 chip. The SX740 has a Bluetooth and Wi-Fi although you’re out of luck if you want NFC.

The one drawback of this camera is the fact there is no optical viewfinder which may rule it out for some. That said, if you own a smartphone, you’ll feel right at home and it provides 100% coverage. You can pick up the Canon SX740 in solid Black or Silver with a Brown front grip.

Pros:

  • Dual sensing IS
  • 40x zoom
  • 3” swiveling display
  • 4K video at 30p
  • Sweet price point
Cons:

  • No optical viewfinder
  • ISO range
  • Lack of RAW mode

According to many professionals, the ZV-1 is one of the best compact cameras on the market, and it’s also relatively affordable, hence it would make for a nice addition to your photography paraphernalia if you’re looking for a no-nonsense workhorse.

To make a long story short, the Sony ZV-1 is the definition of an all-rounder, boasting a bright lens, retro appearance, state of the art autofocus system and, most importantly, a ton of design tweaks to make your life easier, things like the side flipping screen.

Ricoh GR III

A Compact Size and Quality Performance in One

ricoh gr iii
If you are looking for a solid digital camera that will provide an excellent image quality, with natural-looking colors and a good level of details, Ricoh GR III is the device for you.

It is lightweight and easy to handle, it comes equipped with a responsive 3″ 1.04M-dot LCD touchscreen, and it has a USB charging function. More importantly, it is fitted with a 24-megapixel APS-C sensor, 18.3mm f/2.8 lens (equivalent to 28mm lens), and very fast autofocus with phase detection and 3-axis in-body SR stabilization system that are the main reason for this camera’s excellent image quality.

However, although Ricoh GR III comes with a fast AF feature, its action photography isn’t of the best quality; nevertheless, that is somewhat expected since its intended use is more dedicated to a still than to action image. Also, that partially explains why its video quality is pretty bad and why there is only 1080p (60fps) recording.

Overall, Ricoh GR III isn’t a perfect camera and has its limitations; however, if you are willing to accept it as it is and use it for its main purpose, still photography, you will be delighted with the results.

Pros:

  • Fast autofocus
  • User-friendly interface
  • Quality RAW image
  • Compact size
Cons:

  • Expensive
  • Not the best video quality
  • Poor battery life

Olympus Tough TG-6

Extreme Durability in a Pocket-Sized Edition

olympus tough tg-6
Olympus Tough TG-6 is a camera that, before anything else, delivers great durability, presented through its water and dust resistance and ability to withstand a two-meter fall, or up to 100kg of force.

It is supplied with a solid 12MP 1/2.33-inch CMOS sensor and 24-100mm f/2.0-4.9 (4x optical zoom) lens and overall produces photos of good quality, but not as good as you would get with, for instance, Sony RX100 VII.

Although Olympus Tough TG-6 sensor is only 12MP, that can’t be considered for its strict downside since its lower pixel density should deliver an image of lower resolution, as well as lower noise levels, which is certainly beneficial.

Olympus Tough TG-6 comes with an SD card slot, Wi-Fi and GPS function and it is fitted with 3-inch, 1040k-dot LCD screen. Also, it comes with a USB port, practical, manually controllable flash/LED and more importantly, it provides a special underwater mode, ideal for divers and adventure lovers.
This camera supports for 4K video recording at 30fps, 1080p at 120fps, 720p at 240fps and 360p at 480fps rate and allows for the creation of slow-motion videos from such a material, which is very handy for adrenalin junkies or extreme sports lovers who want to show their every move.

All in all, if you are into extremes in any sense of that word and are looking for one of the best point-and-shoot cameras for the money, Olympus Tough TG-6 should be your choice.

Pros:

  • Underwater mode
  • Good quality of photos
  • Highly durable
Cons:

  • 12MP sensor
  • Limited manual controls

Panasonic Lumix ZS80K

A Sleeper Powerhouse!

panasonic lumix zs80
Time for a budget option, and here it goes: for less than $500 you can buy a Panasonic Lumix ZS80, and that’s quite something compared to our other posh choices so far. For the price of a mid-range smartphone you’ll get a pretty good “point and shoot” dedicated camera, with great build quality, nice design if you’re a hipster and an interesting viewfinder.

However, compared to a smartphone, photo/video quality is from another planet, and the autofocus/face detection system is pretty fast for such an affordable camera. To describe it in a few words, we’d say that the Panasonic Lumix ZS80 is a superzoom point and shoot camera, featuring a top-notch 20.3MP sensor, a lens equivalent to 24-720mm in 35mm terms and 4K video capabilities.

The viewfinder is impressive for the price tag, and has 2.3 million-dot resolution; other specs worth mentioning include 10fps burst shooting, a raw shooting option and built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Oh, we almost forgot the 3-inch LCD touch screen, and excellent battery life, rated at up to 380 frames; and before you ask, yes, there’s also USB charging available.

Image quality is pretty good considering the expansive lens and the relatively small sensor, so if you’re shopping for a highly portable point and shoot camera, with huge zoom lens and an attractive price tag, the Panasonic Lumix ZS80 should rank high on your shopping list.

Pros:

  • Superb build quality
  • Excellent optics
  • 4K video
  • Well-designed UI
  • Fast AF/Face Detection
  • Optical Image Stabilizer
Cons:

  • None really at this price

Fujifilm Instax Mini 90

A Retro Feeling in a Budget Edition

fujifilm instax mini 90
If you are a fan of retro style and Instant film and are looking for an easy and fun way to express your creativity, Fujifilm Instax Mini 90 is a camera for you.

It is affordable, it offers an intuitive interface and straightforward process and comes with plenty of interesting image modes that will deliver a lot of fun moments and an opportunity to capture your everyday situations in a rather uncommon manner. Some of the more interesting modes are certainly long exposure, kid’s mode, party mode, and double exposure that allows you to shot two images in the same film. In other words, a lot of fun is inevitable.

In general, Fujifilm Instax Mini 90 delivers good quality photos, especially indoors, where it produces crisp images with vibrant colors. However, outside isn’t really its ideal field, since every source of brightness, such as sun/snow or even cloud cause the photos to be too exposed.

Overall, Fujifilm Instax Mini 90 is a specific, niche product that offers decent performance and a lot of fun. It is not a masterpiece and has plenty of flaws. Nevertheless, if you are looking for a digital camera with a soul that will offer a completely different user experience, Fujifilm Instax Mini 90 is probably the best budget point and shoot camera you can find.

Pros:

  • Rechargeable battery
  • Double exposure
  • Good photo quality
  • Excellent design
Cons:

  • Not the best performance with bright backgrounds
  • No video capture

Whatever great cell phone you have and whatever powerful camera it has, it won’t be able to contend with high-end cameras from Nikon, Canon or any other representative of the elite photography world.

So if you belong to real connoisseurs of high-end cameras then don’t miss a chance to look through the list of best offers one can find at today’s market.

We’ve prepared the list of the best digital cameras, which include the best examples of DSLR, mirrorless, point-and-shoot as well as waterproof cameras.

How to Choose The Best Digital Camera

1) Sensor size and megapixels
If novices are looking for cameras with impressive megapixels, real pros are in search of cameras with hefty sensors. The larger a sensor is the better quality of images you will get – this is probably one of the main principles which should be followed while choosing a digital camera. And don’t let megapixels addle you.

2) Lenses
The second feature, which demonstrates how cool a camera is, is the quality of its lenses. Nevertheless, here you should always take into account the purpose of your purchase. Are you going to shoot various social events like weddings and parties, or are you aimed at the sports life? This factor plays one of the key roles while choosing a suitable camera.

3) Autofocus
A good camera usually has a great number of autofocus points which have a crucial impact on image accuracy and sharpness. Besides, a shooting speed should be enough for capturing fast-moving subjects.

4) ISO
This feature shows in what lighting conditions you will be able to take photos. The bigger ISO range is the more lightning conditions a camera can tame.

5) Extra
Some other features, which will make a camera a special one, presuppose weather sealing. Besides, it can be water- and dust-proof. A good camera will also provide you with a quiet shooting mode and high-level automatic settings.

Canon EOS 90D Digital SLR Camera

A Great Product at a Fair Price

canon 90d
If you need a quality digital camera that can provide a solid performance in both video capturing and photography and has a fair price at the same time, Canon EOS 90D is a device for you.

This camera is equipped with Digic 8 image processor, 32.5 Megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor, Canon EF-S lens and 45-point cross-type AF system, with a new 220,000-pixel RGB+IR metering sensor that its autofocus function achieves through a viewfinder. Additionally, this camera is fitted with another autofocus system (Dual Pixel CMOS AF System) that is built-in in the sensor itself and is activated during video or live view mode, and more importantly, it delivers more reliable performance.

Canon EOS 90D provides excellent image quality and delivers photos with good dynamic range and natural colors, but unfortunately too aggressive default noise reduction that can be luckily improved with a little bit of tweaking. Moreover, it supports 4K 30fps and 1080p 120fps video capturing and burst shooting at 11fps speed without and 7fps with continuous AF.

This camera also allows for comfortable use and provides a good grip, but more importantly, it comes with plenty of handy features such as USB port, microphone and headphone jack, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity and a lot more.

Altogether, Canon EOS 90D is one of the best digital cameras available and overall, a great choice for both beginners and enthusiasts.

Pros:

  • No crop 4K video
  • Great image quality

Nikon D3500

An Affordable DSLR for Beginners

nikon d3500
If you’re in the market for an outstanding entry-level camera from Nikon, the D3500 is well worth a look. It won’t break the bank, and we think you’ll be impressed by the number of features this DX-format camera brings to the table given the price tag.

We’re going to start with the tech specs for the Nikon D3500 as you’ll get a 23.5mm x 15.6mm 24MP CMOS sensor. The camera has both manual and autofocus modes, and AF comes with 11 point phase detection. As for the viewfinder, it’s a pentamirror with 95% coverage and a magnification range of 0.85x. The rear panel clocks in at 3” with 100% coverage and is fixed.

This particular model has an 18 – 55mm lens with a maximum aperture of f/3.5 to 5.6. The minimum is f/22 to 38, and it comes complete with AF and image stabilization. The D3500 uses the Nikon F mount system in case you want to swap out lenses out or have some already in your bag. It doesn’t have Wi-Fi like most modern DLSR’s, but you will get Bluetooth.

While the Nikon D3500 is missing a few features found on more expensive cameras, it’s one of the best cheap DSLR cameras you can buy. We mean that in a good way as you’ll get a lot of value from this one; just keep its limitations in mind along with your needs.

Nikon D850

Top-tier Performance from a Flagship DSLR

nikon d850
It’s rare to find a DSLR with glowing reviews across the board, but Nikon has seemingly done the impossible with the D850. It’s a Pro-level camera that will put a dent in your bank account, but it’s well worth it if you truly want the best.

With the D850, it all starts with the sensor which is 45.7MP with an automatic ISO range of 32 to 102400. It’s a back-side illuminated sensor as well, a first from the company but something we expect to see more of in the future. The camera produces rich photos, works well in low light, and has a handy silent mode to go along with an excellent AF system.

The advanced autofocus system on the D850 has 153 focus points with 99 cross-type sensors. It’s accurate, and fast thanks to a dedicated chip. The tilting touchscreen with touch AF is a perk as well, and nobody will complain about being able to record 4K videos at 30p in full-frame with that sassy sensor. The time-lapse feature is also noteworthy if you want to play with 8K stills, and the battery life is simply outstanding at over 1800 shots.

If you’re in the market for a camera with a massive sensor and battery life to get you through the day, the D850 won’t let you down. There are enough modes and settings to keep even the savviest photographers busy although it’s not a camera we would recommend for consumers just getting started in the hobby.

Pros:

  • 45.7MP BSI CMOS sensor
  • Rugged, weather-resistant design
  • Large Pentaprism viewfinder
  • Amazing battery life
  • Bluetooth & Wi-Fi
Cons:

  • Live view could use some work
  • Not beginner-friendly
  • The price tag

sony a7 iii
If you weren’t impressed with the compact RX100 VI, the Sony a7 III might be more your speed. It’s another camera in the “Pro” class and one that’s available in bundles built to suit any photographer’s needs.

Canon EOS R

Full-Frame Action from Canon

canon eos r
Looking for a high-end camera that excels where others fall flat? The Canon EOS R certainly fits that bill, and while it’s one of the more expensive cameras on our list, the specifications should speak for themselves.

This decked-out camera falls into the full-frame category with a massive 30.3MP CMOS sensor. The ISO range is listed at 100 to 40000 but expandable from 50 to 102400. It also has electronic and manual shutters, so you can get the best of both worlds, and the autofocus system is in a class all by itself.

Canon’s hybrid autofocus system has 5,655 points with manual, single-servo or continuous-servo focus modes. The EVF is top of the line at 0.5” with a resolution of 3.69M-dot and provides 100% coverage. We’re pleased to say the LCD panel is just as slick, is a touchscreen and rotates to suit your needs. While there are a lot of settings on the EOS R, the multi-function bar and LCD panel across the top help simplify things significantly.

The EOS R is a camera a lot of fans were waiting for, and while it gets a lot of things right, there are a few missteps along the way. Other cameras at a better price can handle 4K better, and the burst shooting speeds were a little disappointing as well. Overall, it’s still an excellent camera that delivers stunning photographs; just keep the price tag in mind along with your needs.

Pros:

  • 30MP full-frame sensor
  • 3.69M-dot OLED EVF
  • 10-bit 4:2:2 over HDMI
  • Hybrid AF system with over 5000 points
  • Bluetooth and Wi-Fi
Cons:

  • Better alternatives for 4K video
  • Burst shooting speeds
  • Finicky USB charging

Fujifilm X-T4 Mirrorless Camera

The Best APS-C Digital Camera

fujifilm x-t4
If you’re shopping for a perfectly balanced digital camera, the Fujifilm X-T4 Mirrorless should rank high on your shopping list. Even if you’ll have to pay top dollar for the X-T4, you’ll get something almost out of this world: a retro-looking flagship mirrorless camera which is also a truly modern hybrid, and that’s kind of rare nowadays.

To put it more succinctly, this is arguably the best APS-C mirrorless camera money can buy: on the outside, you’ll enjoy the analogue chic design with retro dials, while the inside is packed full with highly advanced features and technological bells and whistles. Another cool thing about the Fujifilm X-T4 Mirrorless is that it will make happy both amateur photographers and pros looking for the best mirrorless experience.

One of the most important improvements of the Fujifilm X-T4 Mirrorless over the old T3 is the inclusion of IBIS, in-body image stabilization respectively, plus a bigger battery, better autofocus, and Bleach Bypass, a new film simulation effect for amateur videographers.

The Fujifilm X-T4 is a tad larger and heavier than the T3, yet build quality is fantastic, and the magnesium alloy chassis is weather resistant. The beefier battery can take up to 600 shots in economy mode, and you’ll also get a USB-C port for file transfer and charging. The 3’’ LCD display has also been improved resolution wise, and it now stands at 1.62-million-dots, plus it can be rotated, i.e. it’s fully articulated and can be viewed in selfie-mode.

The IBIS system has 5 axis in-body image stabilization, and offers 6.5EV (or exposure value) of stabilization, while movie specs are spectacular: you get Cinema 4K movies @ 60fps, 10-bit internal recording, HDMI out, up to 400Mbps bit-rate and with F-Log and HLG profiles included as standard. We almost forgot: there’s also slow-motion Full HD movies @240 frames per second.

Pros:

  • Cutting-edge APS-C sensor
  • Vari-angle screen
  • IBIS is second to none
  • 15 FPS burst shooting
  • Impressive Face & Eye detection AF
  • Superb low light performance
Cons:

  • Lacks headphone jack

Nikon Z7

Nikon’s Award Winning Mirrorless Camera

nikon z7
If our other options from Nikon weren’t your cup of tea, the Nikon Z7 might be just the thing for you. It’s an FX-format camera with specifications that will make you drool. It has the largest sensor of any camera on our list and is a serious piece of equipment.

Before we get to the specs, we want to talk about the features of the Nikon Z7. This 4K camera can do 8K time-lapse or brings things to a crawl with slo-mo video. It can be an acquired taste, but the icon-driven display set in the viewfinder is something we wish more cameras had and this one allows you to customize the menu.

Whether you’re tracking a subject or just need to focus on a face, the Z7 has 493 AF points which take care of 90% of the frame. The hybrid system is quick, and you’ll be impressed by what the big 45.7MP FX-format sensor can do. The ISO range of this camera is listed at 64 to 25600 or 32 to 102400 in extended mode. You’ll also get access to the SnapBridge platform as this one has Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

The Nikon Z7 may be a bit of mixed bag depending on what you’re looking for from a camera, but there’s a lot to like if it’s within your budget. That includes a tilting 3.2” LCD panel and that cool icon-driven display system along with top-class stabilization. We chose the combo with the 24 – 70mm lens, but you can also scoop this one up without a lens if you want to save a few bucks or have one ready to roll.

Pros:

  • 45.7MP FX-format sensor
  • 9 FPS continuous shooting
  • 3.6M-dot quad VGA viewfinder
  • 493 point on-sensor PDAF
  • In-body VR image stabilization
Cons:

  • Live feed issues at certain frame rates
  • Battery life
  • Face detection needs work

Fujifilm X-T30

One of the Best Mirrorless Cameras Available

fujifilm x-t30
Fujifilm X-T30 is a mirrorless camera that offers a good combination of sharp image, fast shooting performance and exceptional autofocus that altogether match the performance of some more expensive models such as Sony’s A6400.

This camera is compact and easy to handle, and it brings a retro look that distinguishes it from the competition. However, it lacks the weatherproof characteristic, but that is something most users can go without.

On the other hand, it offers a powerful performance that allows for recording of 4K videos at 30fps and 1080p ones at 120fps rate, and full-resolution burst image shooting at 8fps with a mechanical shutter and 30fps with an electronic one. Moreover, Fujifilm X-T30 shows great results in catching fast-moving action and delivering photos with realistic colors and good exposure levels, which make it a great option for both professionals and amateurs looking for a good all-rounder for everyday use.

Fujifilm X-T30 is compatible with Fujifilm’s X Mount lenses and has Bluetooth connectivity, but more importantly, it is fitted with 26.1MP APS-C X-Trans CMOS 4 sensor, which is the main reason for its quality performance.

Overall, X-T30 is a great upgrade of the older X-T20 model and altogether one of better quality offerings from Fujifilm. Therefore, if you want the best mirrorless cameras for under $1000, this is probably your best choice.

Pros:

  • Fast performance
  • Quality ergonomics
  • Sharp video
  • Great autofocus
Cons:

  • Lack of in-body stabilization
  • Only one memory card slot

Canon PowerShot G7X Mark III

The Best Compact Camera for Vloggers

canon powershot g7x mark iii
The Canon PowerShot G7X Mark III is a compact camera designed to lure vloggers, as it makes for the company’s most video-focused PowerShot to date. Truth be told, this is basically an update of the older G7 X Mark II, its predecessor, but it comes with a revamped 20.1MP, 1-inch sensor, a fresh DIGIC 8 processing engine and “super powers”, i.e. it can capture images at up to 30fps due to its Raw Burst shooting mode.

We know, it already sounds very interesting, but there’s more to it than meets the eye. Despite its relatively dull appearance, the G7X Mark III can record UHD 4K video, has a 3.5-millimeter microphone input, and, check this out: can livestream on YouTube!

The body design is supremely ergonomic, and the camera feels and stays comfy in your hand, starts up fast, focusing is pretty good, and face detection is amazingly speedy. The user interface is very EOS-ish, and the touchscreen is responsive and very easy to use, especially when it comes to focusing and swiping. Image and video quality are also good, with nice colors, low image noise and a good level of detail.

Bottom line, if you’re shopping for a compact camera that’s focused on amateur videographers, the Canon PowerShot G7X Mark III should rank high on your shopping list.

Pros:

  • 20fps@ full res
  • 4K video
  • USB-C charging

Fujifilm X100V

The Best Compact Camera of Its Kind

fujifilm x100v digital camera
Here we have something really special: the X100V from Fujifilm, one of the best cameras of its kind, and by that we mean a compact camera built for the smartphone age. To begin with, the retro design is clearly aimed at street photography aficionados, even if the price tag may deter some of them from trying it, which is a shame.

Basically, the X100V is a premium compact camera, and has a design inspired from 1950’s film cameras; moreover, it looks stylish, it’s light, compact, and has a pocketable form factor. However, there’s more than meets the eye. Under its relatively humble appearance, you’ll discover a unique hybrid viewfinder, a large APS-C sensor, and a fixed 23mm f/2 lens.

If you combine all these factors together, you’ll understand why the X100V is incredibly popular among travel snappers and posh street photographers. It’s worth mentioning that the X100V is the 5th member of its “family”, i.e. this is an incremental upgrade of an already amazing compact camera. The latest generation boasts a state of the art 26.1MP APS-C X Trans CMOS 4 sensor, a better AF system, plus 4K@30FPS video capability.

Moreover, we must mention the improved lens, 11fps bursts, and the dial-driven analogic controls, which are absolutely awesome for old-school photographers.

The new tilting touchscreen is very interesting and ergonomically designed, and the camera is built around a magnesium alloy frame with aluminum plates. Needless to say, everything looks and feels premium, and if you can afford it, just go for it and thank us in the comments section.

Pros:

  • Weatherproof body
  • Impressive EVF
  • Raw Processing
  • Pocketable and slim
  • 26.1MP APS-C sensor
  • Improved lens
Cons:

  • Lacks optical stabilization
  • Expensive

Ricoh GR III

A Great Performance in a Small Package

ricoh gr iii
Although a compact size is usually a limiting factor, reality proves that sometimes those boundaries are crossable and Ricoh GR III is the prime example of that.

Of course, its performance cannot be compared with the top-class mirrorless cameras. However, its clean and detailed photos, with good color accuracy, position it pretty high among the mid-range devices.

Equipped with a 24-megapixel APS-C sensor, 18.3mm f/2.8 lens (equivalent to 28mm lens), fast autofocus function and 3-axis in-body SR stabilization system, Ricoh GR III presents a great tool for everyday shooting, as well as occasional video capturing, that can be managed in a 1080p resolution at a 60fps rate.

Moreover, this camera is equipped with USB-C charging function and a responsive 3″ 1.04M-dot LCD touchscreen, but more importantly, it provides easy handling and because of its lightweight character, great portability.

All in all, although a Ricoh GR III is a bit overpriced niche product, dedicated to a small number of people looking for a practical and small-sized replacement for their smartphone, the fact is that its qualities put it well above its primary purpose. To be precise, they firmly position it among the best mirrorless cameras available, making it one of the better deals out there at the same time.

Pros:

  • Compact
  • Exceptional image quality
  • Fast autofocus
Cons:

  • Pricey
  • Questionable video quality
  • Not that great battery life

Canon PowerShot G5 X Mark II

An Excellent Pocket-sized Camera Ideal for More Demanding Users

canon powershot g5 x mark ii
If you are looking for a small size and excellent performance in one, Canon PowerShot G5 X Mark II is the device for you. Compact enough to fit in your jeans pocket and powerful enough that it can be compared with the best DSLR cameras out there.

The main reason for its quality performance is its 20.1-megapixel one-inch CMOS sensor and 24-120mm f/1.8-2.8 (5x optical zoom) lens, in a combination with image stabilization, producing images with good dynamic range, natural colors and a fairly nice level of details.

Although Canon PowerShot G5 X Mark II offers a solid action photography performance and decent video quality, with good frame rates in both 4K (30fps) and 1080p (120fps) resolution, its primary purpose is still photography, where it shows its best results.

According to its performance and price, it is the closest to the Sony RX100 Mark VII; however, it lacks some of the more prominent features that would make it stand out from the bunch.

Canon PowerShot G5 X Mark II is equipped with a Bluetooth connection, USB charging function, 180-degree tilting touchscreen, as well as a pop-up optical viewfinder for easier photo composing. More importantly, it is supplied with a fast AF function and supports 20fps burst shooting, with fixed focus and 8fps shooting with the autofocus turned on.

In other words, everything that could be expected from the best compact camera is there.

Sony RX100 VII

The Best Compact Camera There Is

sony rx100 vii
Finding a top-class camera that will outperform all the competition is what most users are dreaming of, and Sony with its RX100 VII has managed to make that dream alive.

This device is amazing on so many levels that not each of them can be mentioned. It produces excellent, sharp images, with a lot of detail, it allows for continuous shooting at a speed of 20fps with both autofocus and auto-exposure turned on, it supports the creation of high-speed videos with 1000fps, and a lot more.

There are numerous features such as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connection, NFC, flippable 3″ touchscreen LCD, USB-charging function, even a microphone jack, but even more importantly, great equipment under its premium-looking shell. Sony RX100 VII is fitted with an excellent one-inch 20MP Exmor RS Stacked BSI-CMOS sensor that has proved its worth with the past RX100 cameras, and the amazing 24-200mm f/2.8-4.5 Zeiss Vario-Sonnar lens that is, along with its high-speed (0.02 sec) autofocus, the most responsible for its staggering performance.

Although it looks similar to its predecessor, RX100 VII brings a lot of improvements over it, especially in action photography and video capturing that sort of make it a compact-sized version of Sony Alpha camera.

To sum up, if you want the best mirrorless camera in a pocket-sized package, Sony RX100 VII is the device for you.

  • Excellent performance
  • Great autofocus
  • 20fps burst shooting with autofocus

Sony ZV-1

The Best All-Rounder Compact Camera

sony zv-1 camera
Our next pick is the Sony ZV-1, a point and shoot and very powerful pocket camera specifically designed for vloggers. The ZV-1 builds on the success of the highly popular Sony RX100, and it’s one of the best vlogging cameras on the market, combining a cutting edge autofocus system with cool tweaks that make it perfect for shooting YouTube vids on the move or at home.

The main selling point of the ZV-1 is the powerful combo between Sony’s proprietary Real-time tracking and Real-time Eye AF systems and a bright 24-70mm f/1.8-2.8 lens. Add into the mix the 1-inch sensor, which is a tad larger compared to what you’d find in a modern smartphone, and you’ve got yourself a winner. Basically, this camera makes high quality shooting a child’s play, offering consistent focus and a pleasing background blur.

There’s also a 3.5 mm microphone port included in the “package” which means you can easily add high-quality audio to your videos, and you can even mount accessories like LED lighting or a shotgun microphone via ZV-1’s hotshoe. Bottom line, if you’re looking for a compact with a good pedigree, the ZV-1 really delivers: you’ll get a sharp 24-70mm lens, best in class AF, excellent image quality, a lightweight body, cool design, a flip-out display and well-implemented electronic stabilization.

So, even if this Sony compact would’ve benefited from a wide-angle lens, it’s actually impressive what the company managed to pack into this tiny camera, hence you should definitely give it a shot (pun intended).

Pros:

  • Lightweight and small
  • Industry-leading AF
  • Excellent performance
  • Bright lens
  • Side flipping screen
  • Great for 4k video
Cons:

  • No USB-C

Leica Q2

The Good, the Bad and the Beautiful

leica q2
Leica Q2, and Leica cameras in general, are such specific products, with their own philosophy that makes them the best of the best in most cases. However, this philosophy also puts some limitations upon them, which prevent them from becoming utterly amazing.

Overall, this camera is a real masterpiece, with premium build, magnesium-alloy body, and more importantly, amazing performance that won’t leave anyone indecisive. The main reason for that is its all-mighty 47.3MP full-frame sensor and 28mm F1.7 Summilux stabilized lens, which helps this compact dude make amazing photos that look rich and vivid and with excellent dynamic range, in almost any situation. In other words, with Leica Q2 it is nearly impossible to make a bad photo.

GoPro HERO9 Black

Better Than Ever

GoPro HERO9 Black
The GoPro Hero9 is the hero of our times and brings big changes for the “outdoor” community, together with slightly rough edges. To make your buying decision real simple, the HERO9 is literally the most versatile and powerful action camera in the world, but if you’re looking for value for money, well, that would be the HERO8.

However, if you’re looking for the latest and greatest gadget money can buy, the HERO9 has your name on it. There’s a new sensors in the HERO9, better than ever before, plus a front display, which is a very useful addition.

To begin with, the new sensor is a 23.6MP variety capable of shooting 5K (!) video, and it delivers a bit more detail in the right conditions than the HERO8.

Another big upgrade over the HERO8 is the new electronic stabilization feature, which delivers HyperSmooth Boost in all shooting modes. And before you ask, this is the best stabilization in the industry, bar none.

All these new upgrades make the HERO9 a top performer in the action camera realm, and the best choice for users looking for high quality UHD video in all conditions, whether 4K or 5K. The new frontal display is an excellent addition, and it will make vloggers happy, even if it’s not quite a match for a dedicated articulated display.

Battery life is not as big improvement over the HERO8 though, and the same goes for low light performance, which is on par with the previous generation. The new TimeWarp 3.0 feature is pretty good for time lapse scenes, and the Live Streaming plus Webcam – Live stream in 1080p now brings HyperSmooth stabilization as you broadcast.

Waterproofness and tank-like build quality is as good as ever, and except from the fact that the HERO9 is a little bit heavier than the HERO8, we cannot recommend it enough for getting great videos and pics while on the go.

Pros:

  • Speedy and snappy
  • Built like a tank
  • Best IS in industry
  • 5K video
  • Front display
  • New features
Cons:

  • No 4K/120p mode
